ELSOC EVENT CALENDAR

Our Upcoming Events

You can see our calendar below. Scroll down to see instructions on how to sync the calendar to Google Calendars, Apple Calendars, your desktop, mobile or tablet. Alternatively, you can keep informed of our events through Facebook.

Syncing to your device

All our events are saved onto our Google calendar. You can view and sync this calendar through multiple platforms. Any updates will propagate through. It is important to note that our event dates are not set in stone, especially for BBQs and other smaller events. So take the dates for any event more than a few weeks away as tentative only.

Browser: View it above. If you can't see it, try turning off your add-ons (such as Privacy Badger), or go to the standalone Google Calendar page.

Google Calendars: Click here to subscribe.

Android: The easiest method is to add the calendar to Google Calendars for the Google account you use for your phone.
  • Click here to subscribe to the calendar through Google Calendars.
  • On your phone, go to settings -> accounts -> Google -> account name
  • Tick the box for syncing calendars.
  • Open up your calendar app of choice
  • find the list of displayed calendars.
  • Make sure that "ELSOC Events" is ticked. (Some other calendars may have been ticked. Untick them if you wish.)

Office 365 Outlook (zmail):
  • Go to the Calendar page
  • Click Add Calendar -> From Internet
  • Paste in the following as the url: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/elsoc.net_q3p89jhgtel8slk22bfbjihq54%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics
  • Name the Calendar (e.g. "ELSOC Events")

Apple Calendar (desktop): I haven't tried this. I'm just copying and pasting these instructions. I do not know whether it is possible to do this without having a Google Account.
  • Click here to subscribe to the calendar through Google Calendars.
  • On your computer, open the Calendar program
  • In the top left corner of your screen, click Calendar > Preferences.
  • Click the Accounts tab.
  • On the left side of the Accounts tab, click +
  • Select Google > Continue.
  • Enter your Gmail address, password, and verification code (if you have one).
  • Click accept
  • On the Accounts tab, choose how often you want Apple Calendar and Google Calendar to sync.

Apple Calendar (iPhone or iPad): I haven't tried this. I'm just copying and pasting these instructions. I do not know whether it is possible to do this without having a Google Account.
  • Click here to subscribe to the calendar through Google Calendars.
  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
  • Touch Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add account > Google.
  • Enter your email address > Next.
  • Enter your password
  • Emails, contacts, and calendar events will now sync directly with your Google Account. To sync only your calendar, turn off the other services.
  • Open the Calendar app on your iPhone to see your Google Calendar events.

Thunderbird:
  • Open the calendar tab in Thunderbird.
  • Right click on the list of calendars
  • Select "Add new calendar"
  • Select "On the network".
  • Select "iCalendar (ICS)" and paste in https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/elsoc.net_q3p89jhgtel8slk22bfbjihq54%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics
  • Tick "Offline Support"
  • Enter a name for the calendar, such as "ELSOC Events"
  • Choose a colour
  • Untick "show reminders" (personally I find they never work right on Thunderbird)
  • Select an email address. I don't know what that's for

Evolution:
  • Open the calendar pane.
  • Right click on the list of calendars and select "New Calendar"
  • Select "On the web"
  • Paste https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/elsoc.net_q3p89jhgtel8slk22bfbjihq54%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics into the url field
  • Tick 'copy calendar contents locally for offline operation'
  • Fill out the other fields as you wish
  • Done!

OwnCloud: OwnCloud does not currently allow users to add calendars which are hosted elsewhere. You could download the static .ics file here, upload it to your OwnCloud files, click on it in the OwnCloud file browser and then add it. But there would be no point, because it wouldn't update when we update the original.

Other:
  • Any program or platform which supports 'caldav', 'ical' or dynamic links to '.ics' files should work.
  • The link is https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/elsoc.net_q3p89jhgtel8slk22bfbjihq54%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics
  • I'm hoping you can figure out the rest. If you get this working for another platform, please let vicepresident@elsoc.net know, so we can add instructions for it here.
