ELSOC Oktoberfest BBQ and AGM
Posted 2011/10/09 20:46:43 by Leon
Hey ELSOCers,
Just some advance notice so that you save the date, next week on Thursday (October 13th, also coincidentally Oktoberfest...) will be the ELSOC BBQ OF THE YEAR. What constitutes BBQ of the year I hear you ask, excellent question. It involves more of everything than ever and the ELSOC elections!
We booked the Physics Lawn for the occasion a year in advance and we'll be going from 12pm - 2pm.
Food - we've got plenty of sausages, veggie sausages and halal sausages
Drinks - we'll have an excess of soft-drinks and beers
Since it's such a big day on the Electrical Engineers calendar we'll also be using the day for our Annual General Meeting where we'll be voting in the ELSOC committee for 2011. So if being on the ELSOC committee is something you'd like to do next year then it's essential you come and run. The AGM will start at 1pm.
The structure of ELSOC is changing slightly and there are more positions in our general committee than ever before. I can't recommend it enough if you're thinking about it. Every year we need a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Arc delegate, Academic/Social/Industry Coordinators and year reps. On top of that we'll be electing a number of people into a general advisory/action committee. Plenty of positions are up for grabs and there's definitely a place for everyone who wants to get more involved. All you need to do is come on the day and register. If you have any further queries please don't hesitate to email me back.
Also we have constitutional changes proposed by the current executive which we need to vote in at the AGM. Changes will be listed at the end of the email and the proposed constitution is attached.
Thanks everyone, see you next week!

Mid-semester BBQ and Staff vs Students rugby!
Posted 2011/08/31 12:35:54 by Leon
So it's the week before the midsemester break and I'm sure everyone (this goes for our staff members too) is just having the best time with mid-semester tests and cramming in that last bit of teaching before the break. But to keep that light bright at the end of the tunnel ELSOC will be helping everyone transition into the break with a BBQ this Thursday from 12pm - 2pm on the Physics Lawn. As always there will be plenty of everything for everybody with vegetarian and non-alcoholic options alongside with the meat-eating and alcoholic ones.
So wait, is it just a standard BBQ? Absolutely not, for the first time in what I'm sure has been a few years ELSOC has officially challenged the school staff to the a game of touch rugby and so begins the Annual Electrical Engineers Cup. Without making too big a deal out of it, whoever wins will have massive bragging rights over the losers for exactly one year and it will be nothing but glorious.
In order to make the staff team that bit more bigger and competitive the staff team will include the postgraduates. If you wish to join the staff team please send Dr. Aboutanois an email at elias@unsw.edu.au. First prize will have a case of something cold and imported as well as handshakes from Professor Ambi. The losers may get a pat on the back, I haven't decided yet.
EVERYONE should definitely come down and see this epic struggle for dominance take place. In anticipation ELSOC has more than enough sausage, vege patties, beer and softdrink for everyone to keep us going throughout the day and properly see us into the mid-semester break.
**In short**
Who: You, me and all the other great electrical engineering undergrads/postgrads/staff
What: Students vs. Staff rugby + ELSOC BBQ!
What else: There will be a guaranteed excess of vege patties, soft drink, sausage and beer.
When: This Thursday, 12pm - 2pm. Clear your timetables!
Where: Physics Lawn
Why: Because the midsemester break approaches and this is what we do!
Thanks and don't miss out on history!

ELSOC needs your help designing a new shirt!
Posted 2011/05/19 21:09:21 by Leon
So the ELSOC serving you beer shirt joke might have worn off over the past decade and we need help designing a new shirt. So submit any entries as a reply to this thread! Pictures would be great but if you're not the artistic type maybe just a written joke an explanation of the image that might accompany it will more than suffice.
We'll vote on the winning design at the BBQ next Thursday so get those shirt ideas in!

Forum changes

Just a quick note: Due to inexplicably large amounts of spam on the forum in the last week or so, we've had to disallow guest posting on the forum. So now you need a forum account to post. But hey, signing up is easy! Why not do it now if you haven't already?
Oktoberfest!
Posted 2010/10/13 13:40:38 by middlerun
It's almost here, cats and kittens. Our very own Christmas in October...
The ELSOC AGM and Oktoberfest BBQ!!!
The Oktoberfest BBQ is the biggest ELSOC event there is, so come down and join the party. There'll be tons of free beer and sausages, and we'll also be electing the new committee for 2011 and voting on amendments to the ELSOC constitution. Remember these important facts:
12:30-2:30, October 14 at the Physics Lawn
Voting starts at 1:30
See you there!
Super insane BBQ season
Posted 2010/09/30 17:25:16 by middlerun
Hey Elsoccers!
The uni year's nearly over and to celebrate, ELSOC is having three huge BBQs over three huge weeks. There'll be beer, soft drinks, food, sports and your fellow ELSOC members in abundance, all for the low low price of FREE!
When: 12:30 to 2:30, Thursday of weeks 11, 12 and 13.
Where: The physics lawn.
The week 12 Oktoberfest BBQ is also the ELSOC AGM, where we'll vote on a new committee for next year. The AGM is the biggest event on the ELSOC calendar so don't miss it! We all remember what Anzac Parade looked like after last year's one:
If you only come to one ELSOC BBQ this year, make it this one! And get outside more, dude.
Congratulations Dzurak and Morello!
